The National Honor Society at Houghton High School will host a blood drive from noon to 3 p.m. Dec. 12 at the High School between the High School and Middle School gyms. The Jail Committee meeting will be held in the Conference Room on the 5th floor of the Houghton County Courthouse, 401 E. Houghton Avenue, Houghton Monday, December 8, 2025 at 4:00 p.m. According to a release from County Clerk Jennifer Kelly, a Microsoft Teams has been set up for those who cannot attend in person. A meeting agenda will be posted soon on the county website under "Jail Committee," shortly.
The Carnegie Museum's building will be closed for construction until Tuesday Dec. 9. The building will be closed while they modernize its 1908 water closet. While the building is closed, staff will still be working, so look for information coming soon to reserve your gingerbread kits. Thank you to the Keweenaw National Historical Park Advisory Commission for a grant and to the City of Houghton DPW for the labor. The museum will reopen in time for its Annual Holiday Open House, 1 - 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13.

Michigan Works! services will continue for Ontonagon County residents, but the office is no longer accepting walk-in and appointments must be scheduled in advance through upmichiganworks.org or over the phone. Lift bridge lane closures HOUGHTON - Crews from the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will be performing routine bridge inspections on the Portage Lake Lift Bridge Monday. These inspections will require lane closures. Drivers should expect intermittent single-lane closures on the bridge from Monday through Friday (10/20-24). At least one lane will remain open in each direction. From 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. nightly Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, the bridge will not lift for vessels while inspections are underway.
