HANCOCK — Police said the victim of a Sunday ATV assault was released from the hospital and is recovering at home. They have also named the suspect in the ATV assault and other vandalism incidents committed the same day. In a release Thursday afternoon, Hancock police identified the suspect as Joshua Kemppainen, 22, of Quincy Township. Kemppainen was found dead at his residence Monday from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after notifying police he was responsible for the Sunday incidents and telling them to come get him. L’ANSE — The Village of L’Anse held its second monthly meeting on Monday. Before the meeting addressed the issues on the agenda, Village Manager Bob LaFave informed council of Saturday’s passing of former trustee member Jim Hulkinen. “I know this is a really important body to him and that he had a great deal of love of the village,” LaFave said. “Jim had a lot of love for everyone in this room. HANCOCK — Police found a Quincy Township man dead in his home Monday, the day after he was suspected to have committed a string of politically motivated crimes in Hancock. Hancock police had received a message from someone at the man’s Samson Street address wanting to “confess a crime involving an ATV driver within the last 24 hours” and also to “send someone to pick me up.” Police had circulated photos of the driver after several incidents Sunday, including vandalizing two cars and running over a 80-year-old man on Anthony Street.
