County moves ahead with EO Center plans

EAGLE RIVER — Keweenaw County has received the funds of a $50,000 Rural Readiness Grant from the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity’s Office of Rural Prosperity for its planned County Emergency Operations Center. The Keweenaw Community Foundation and The Nature Conservancy in Michigan are co-applicants on the grant, which the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development designed to support rural communities in planning and capacity building. Helmer appoints two assistant prosecutors for Houghton County

HOUGHTON — Houghton County Prosecuting Attorney Dan Helmer announced that after having open positions for over a year, he has hired two new Assistant Prosecuting Attorneys for the County of Houghton. Both positions will start on Feb. 5 and serve in the various courts here in Houghton County. Helmer has appointed Hilary Baker as Chief Assistant Prosecutor.
