Meeting to discuss brook trout

HANCOCK — Area anglers are invited to attend a meeting with the Michigan DNR, next week, regarding the current 10-year requirement limiting harvest to one 20″ brook trout from the Pilgrim River. The meeting will take place at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Franklin Township Hall, US 41 next to the Quincy Mine.

The DNR will review results from the 10-year study limiting Brook Trout harvesting to increase Brook Trout size. According to a press release, the objective is to discuss fishermen experiences on the Pilgrim River and to provide input in support of discontinuing this restrictive policy.

Both the DNR and local organizers say they are looking forward to a discussion regarding this issue as the 10 Year Study is over. The Michigan DNR needs to decide on whether to continue this Pilgrim River regulation with further restrictive studies that affect recreational activity for Houghton County.

Starting at $3.50/week.
