Press release Marquette – Upper Peninsula Power Company (UPPCO) is announcing the company’s boat launch facility at Dam No. 4 on the Boney Falls reservoir will be temporarily closed to the public on Friday, October 27th. The closure is required to support the demobilization of equipment that was used for planned maintenance activities and facility improvements that were completed by UPPCO this summer. Mobile Food Pantry Scheduled for Nov 1 in Ontonagon

On Wednesday, November 1, 2023 at 12 p.m. a mobile food pantry will be hosted at the Ontonagon Village Fire Hall. The event will provide a variety of foods, including fresh produce and dairy items, to approximately 300 families on a first-come, first-served basis. The mobile food pantry is funded by Copper Shores Community Health Foundation in partnership with Ontonagon Area Schools. Truck found abandoned, burned in Adams Twp.

SOUTH RANGE — The Houghton County Sheriff Department is investigating an abandoned vehicle at The Bluff behind South Range in Adams Township. The small 1997 Nissan truck was left on the site and is burned to an unrecognizable state, the department said in a release. The department said the truck appeared to have been directed down the bluff from the top, coming to rest about two-thirds of the way down. Anyone with information is asked to contact the sheriff department at (906) 482-0055 or 911.

SEMCO Energy warns of door to door solicitation scam

PORT HURON – SEMCO customers have made several reports to the Company of unknown door-to-door solicitors claiming to be SEMCO employees and asking for copies of the customer’s gas bill and banking information. SEMCO does not solicit customers door-to-door and does not ask for customer account numbers or to see copies of bills. The company issued a warning this week after receiving calls from customers who reported they were approached by individuals who said they were from the utility and asked to see a recent energy bill.
