Baraga County Chamber invites all to a membership mixer

L'ANSE — On Friday, Oct. 1, the Baraga County Chamber of Commerce will be hosting its annual Membership Mixer starting at 5:30 p.m. in the conference room of the Ojibwa Resort in Baraga. Coffee, soft drinks, and hors d'oeuvres will be provided by the Chamber and a cash bar will be available. The Ojibwa Casino will be providing complimentary wine glasses and casino free play. Activities include a silent auction, a 50-50 raffle, and a brown bag auction. GS Engineering selected for US Army experiment

HOUGHTON — GS Engineering has been selected by the U.S. Army to take part in the 2022 Army Expeditionary Warrior Experiment (AEWE 2022) for the Maneuver Battle Lab at U.S. Army Fort Benning in Georgia. GS Engineering will bring its Ultralight Tactical Bridge for testing and evaluation under the Stand-Alone Assessment venue. An AEWE Team consisting of an infantry military occupational specialist (MOS) will put the technology through its paces in an operationally relevant context. Green Burial tour Saturday

CHASSELL — Everyone is invited to visit the area's largest natural burial area on Saturday, Sept. 18, at 1 p.m., at the Chassell Township Cemetery. The Keweenaw Green Burial Alliance (KGBA) is organizing the tour, which will be led by Joseph Youngman of the Chassell Township Public Works. “Chassell Township has created burial areas that appeal to people’s sense of what is natural,” said Stephen Jukuri, president of the KGBA. 2021-2022 STEP registration now open

The Michigan State Police is excited to announce that registration is now open for the Student Tools for Emergency Planning program (STEP). The STEP program provides teachers with emergency preparedness materials at no cost to the school, including instructor guides, copies of student handouts, and starter emergency supply kits for each student. The basic lesson includes an hour of instruction, but educators have the option to expand the lesson to include eight hours of material.
