Hanna Hammerstrom
BATTLE GROUND, Wash. – Marvel Johanna Serafia Hammerstrom, 92, a resident of Golden Age Nursing Home, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 3, 2016, with some of her children by her side.
Hanna was born on August 18, 1923, in Gackel, North Dakota, a daughter of Isaac and Anna (Uskoski) Halberg.
She taught school before the war in the Gackel area.
She married Francis Hammerstrom in Detroit in 1944. They lived in the area until 1975, then moved to Hancock, where they operated the “Acorn Shop” Antique Store on Quincy Hill until 1979. They then moved to the Vancouver, Washington, area to be near their children until retirement. They then returned to the Hancock area.
Hanna was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 48 years, Francis; sister, Irene (Bob) Ruonavaara; brother, Norbert (Esther) Halberg; three grandchildren, Richard, Sam and Aaron Hammerstrom; two great-grandchildren, Louis Kysar and Isabelle Sarkinen; son-in-law, Calvin Ek; and five half-sisters and one half-brother.
She is survived by three daughters, Patricia Ek, Margaret (Nils) Skulbru of Battleground, Marie (John) True, of Bend, Oregon; three sons, Richard (Connie), of Hancock, Gerald (Sharon) and Rod (Wendy), both of Pasco, Washington; 40 grandchildren; and 151 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church of Brush Praire, Washington, on Wednesday, February 8, 2016, with Dale Sohlecht and Russell Kysar officiating.
Hanna’s final resting place is the Elim Cemetery in Brush Praire, Washington.
Donald G. Budd, Sr.
KENTON – Donald G. Budd, Sr., of Kenton, passed away on Thursday, February 11, 2016, at Bayside Village in L’Anse.
He was born June 16, 1929, in Kenton, to the late Franklin & Florence (Trembley) Budd. On September 28, 1956, Donald was united in marriage to Gladys Marie Bonin.
He worked as a self-employed logger until his retirement. During his younger years, Donald enjoyed track while in high school. Later in life, he loved hunting, fishing and trapping. Donald also enjoyed his vegetable garden and was an avid Green Bay Packer fan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Gladys; a brother, Franklin Budd; and a sister, Madonna Budd Pinar.
Donald is survived by his children, Roger (Jo Ann) Silk, Michael (Dora) Silk, Donald (Sandie) Budd, Jr., Shirley Fowler, Florence (Kenneth) Perttula, Thomas (Tami) Budd & Richard (Stephanie) Budd; seven grandchildren; and 22 great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, February 17, 2016, at 5 p.m. at the Cane Funeral Home- Bruce Crossing Chapel, Bruce Crossing. Friends may call at the funeral home 1 hour prior to the start of the service.
