Who are we? When I was 20 years old, I fell in love for a while with a man from Ethiopia. Despite, perhaps because of, our outward differences, we were amazed to find that our dreams for the world were identical. We were contemplating marriage until he told me of some of his traditions that were just too different for me to embrace. Social media enabled us to re-connect last year. Houghton County Board Editor: It seems our commissioners do what they please with our tax dollars: the purchase of the church property on Sharon Ave without any public input. Now they want to spend more money to tear it down without any public input. Is there any sense to this with this kind of government? Why do we need them or why do they us except for a check book? Keweenaw International Children's Festival Editor: The board of the Elaine Bacon Literacy Program would like to thank the many international and local people and organizations who made Saturday's first ever Keweenaw International Children's Festival at the Portage Lake District Library a huge success! The library was jam packed for hours as children and their parents milled around listening and dancing to stories, songs, and folk music from around the world.
