Positive Thinking TO THE EDITOR: Most people have heard of positive thinking from authors like Norman Vincent Peale. So is positive thinking just another word for faith? The positive thinking theory implies that one's positive or negative thoughts influence a person's own body and personality and ultimate health. Congressman Jack Bergman vs. Canadian Smoke Editor: Congressman Jack Bergman wants Canada to manage its forests better to eliminate wildfires and alleviate smoke that’s causing hazardous air quality in the U.P. He requests prescribed burns, forest thinning, etc., actions that Canada already implements where possible. However, Canada has huge remote boreal forests with no road infrastructure, and the majority of fires are ignited by lightning strikes, which makes it difficult to detect and access fires. Triathlon a success Dear Editor, I am writing to thank all the amazing people who took part in our 5th annual Verna Mize Triathlon. The participants, volunteers, and law enforcement personnel made for another safe and enjoyable day. Coupled with an absolutely beautiful morning; all the people taking pictures that day have an award winning photo for sure. Opposed to senior meal millage To the Editor: I am writing to voice my opposition to the proposed senior meal millage being requested by Copper Shores. While supporting our seniors is an important priority, it’s difficult to justify this new tax when Copper Shores already has $80 million in reserves, was recently awarded $21 million form the Michigan Attorney General, and routinely benefits from various federal, state, and private grants to support its senior meal and other community programs.
