To the editor: The Lake Linden-Hubbell Sportsmen’s Association celebrated our 100th anniversary in 2021. We hold the annual Rice Lake Fishing Derby, numerous yearly Hunter Education programs, award a local high school scholarship each spring, and have a large deer feeding program. We offer reasonable Club memberships for all ages, with archery, trap and rifle/pistol ranges. We are in the process of designing and building a competition pistol range.
To the editor: Rural America today is a lot like Jesus’ rural Galilean place of upbringing. In Galilee, everything was simple, uniform, and backward. Complex, varied, or new policies were not welcome. Then, there was pushback against measures to deal with the Roman occupation and attendant mental health disorders. To the editor: After reading the front page article regarding the proposed seaplane airport and operation on Portage Lake, just south of Houghton, we want to say, “Just say no to a seaplane airport next to residential neighborhoods on Portage Lake!” What homeowner, boater, or kayaker wants noisy seaplanes landing and taking off on the peaceful waters of Portage Lake at all times of the day? To the editor: Recently we observed the 50th anniversary of the MacInnes Student Ice Arena. I would like to thank all those who have worked there over the years. They have maintained the rink exceptionally well. Their efforts have continued to give the university and the community a great facility. To the editor: Recently, I found myself in a quandary. My husband and I qualify for Marketplace Insurance, but our three children qualify for Medicaid. Common sense would assume that one would have the choice between Medicaid and subsidized Marketplace Insurance. However, the reality in Michigan is that the law doesn’t allow parents to choose Medicaid or subsidized Marketplace Insurance for their children. To the editor: I am responding to an article in the paper on 1-26-2022, entitled “ Lac La Belle, Mount Bohemia reach agreement on name use.” In the article, Mr.Glieberman said, “we built a ski resort in the middle of nowhere.” I beg to differ. Mt. Bohemia is not in the middle of nowhere. It is in the beautiful and very special place, the Keweenaw Peninsula. As we know Mt. Bohemia has a name, it is not an insignificant unnamed hill. I see no way the fact that someone sells t-shirts with a hill, a skier and the name Mt. Bohemia on it could possibly impact the ski ...
