Karl Bohnak

To the editor: The management at TV6 has taken a gutsy move in firing popular weatherman Karl Bohnak for refusing to get vaccinated. I will miss his clear diction and terse but complete analysis of weather patterns (which far surpass the occasional mumblings and verbosity of those who seek to replace him). However, TV6 management’s gutsy action has brought to the forefront the concern and responsibility for the common good and welfare of us all, and which all of us should have, for the combat and getting rid of this pandemic. I support, salute, and thank them.

TV6’s loss

To the editor: The news of meteorologist Karl Bohnak’s departure from the WLUC TV6 news team is disturbing, both because it happened at all, and because of the disagreement between Bohnak and the station’s management that brought it about. While I do not side with Bohnak in his dispute with management over the mandatory-vaccination policy for WLUC employees — which he opposes partly on grounds of individual freedom — and am in fact disappointed in his stance on the issue, I am nonetheless saddened by his ouster. Birthday wishes

To the editor: Monday, September 20, Retired City Foreman Daniel Harry is turning 80 years old. Before retiring about 15 years ago, Daniel spent many tireless hours working on projects to improve, beautify and maintain the city of Houghton. With his fellow coworkers, he spent much of his time building up the downtown waterfront which people continue to enjoy today. Pouring sidewalks, building picnic tables, decks, boat docks and fishing piers. Twin Lakes Fire thanks

To the editor: The Twin Lakes Fire Department would like to thank all the Copper Country businesses for helping us host the Firefighters Tournament. The donations were overwhelming. Thank you to all who volunteered to make this day fun for all involved. Kudos to all the Departments for their help keeping this tradition something to look forward to. Amazing support. What a team!

Whose rights matter?

To the editor: After a year of only video contact and occasional through the window short term meetings, we finally got near some kind of normal and were able to safely gather the family back home with her. We all did our part to bring the virus under control, practiced social distancing, wore masks, and got our shots. It was great to have the freedom back to get together and enjoy the opportunity to share family time again. Disrespect for the flag

To the editor: I’m seeing some upside down U.S. flags in the area by folks claiming to be “patriots.” These same “patriots” scream about the dreaded Antifa. Antifa, of course, is just a contraction of anti-fascist. You know, much like all of the brave heroes who fought, and in many cases died, in order to help save the world in WWII. I mean that war was against fascists.
