HANCOCK — The third period was the difference as the Finlandia University women’s hockey team (1-6-1, 1-5-1 NCHA) lost 6-3 to Marian (3-7, 3-4 NCHA), Friday night at the HOCO.

Marian came out strong, scoring twice in the first 4 and one-half minutes of the game. At the 6:42 mark, junior Natasha Kern scored on a pass from senior Sierra Meiners.

A minute later, Kern returned the favor assisting on Meiners’ goal that made it 2-2. In the second period, sophomore Bella Abear went the length of the ice to score.

That gave Finlandia a 3-2 lead with 8:17 left in the period. The Sabres would score with 1:43 left to tie the game once more. MU scored twice in the first 10 minutes of the final period to seal the deal.
