BARAGA — Erin Kamarainen knocked down four 3s and scored 20 points to lead the Baraga Vikings to a 43-28 Copper Mountain conference win Thursday in Baraga.

“We moved the ball offensively and rebounded well,” Baraga coach Tom Goodreau said. “Good overall win tonight.”

Baraga (2-5, 2-2) took a 25-16 halftime lead before limiting the Blue Bolts to just 12 second-half points.

Emma Stout paced the Blue Bolts (0-5, 0-3) with 10 points.

Next, Dollar Bay hosts Wakefield-Marenisco on Jan. 4. Baraga heads to Watersmeet on Jan. 5.

WAKEFIELD — Ewen-Trout Creek outscored Wakefield-Marenisco 20-3 in the first quarter and went on to beat the Cardinals 59-44 in Copper Mountain Conference girls basketball Thursday night.

It was an even game the rest of the way as the shorthanded Cardinals outscored the Panthers by two points in the final three quarters.

“They hit their shots and we struggled a little bit. We missed some shots and weren’t getting out like we needed to on defense,” W-M coach Bruce Mahler said. “But after that, we played pretty well. Being undermanned, undersized, we actually played pretty well.”

Paige Berglund and Elise Besonen each scored 14 points for E-TC. Abbie LeGault had 12 and Maddy Cronkright tallied 11.

Saundra Libertoski finished with 16 points for the Cardinals. Alexa Jilek scored 15.

W-M (1-4, 1-2) goes to Ontonagon tonight. E-TC (4-1, 2-0) goes to Dollar Bay on Jan. 4.
