Houghton-Hancock-Jeffers finish 2nd at regionals

HARBOR SPRINGS — The Houghton girls ski team finished second behind Petoskey in the MHSAA Division 2 Regionals at Nub’s Nob in Harbor Springs on Monday. Houghton was just 2.5 points behind the winning team.

Six local girls placed in the Girls Slalom, with Ally Fenton finishing second in a time of 1:16.97. Katherine Jarvis was sixth (1:19.81), Lydia Salmi was eighth (1:21.56), Miren Unciti finished 27th (1:31.70), Isabelle Cleary finished 30th (1:34.30), and Shelly Chu rounded out the Houghton finishers in 34th place (1:35.96).

Six Houghton skiers also placed in the Giant Slalom. Fenton led the way in third (53.68), followed by Jarvis in sixth (54.77), Unciti in 14th (57.57), Salmi in 21st (58.41), Chu in 28th (59.44) and Rachel Sears in 38th (1:04.79).

Houghton qualified for the Division 2 Ski Finals held at Schuss Mountain in Bellaire on Feb. 26.
