WAKEFIELD — Wakefield-Marenisco couldn’t sustain its strong start as L’Anse came back to win 60-44 in a non-conference game Friday night.

The Cardinals led 17-8 after the first quarter, but they were outscored 19-8 in the second. L’Anse extended its two-point halftime lead to seven going into the fourth when the Purple Hornets pulled away.

“We lost our steam in the fourth quarter,” W-M coach Bruce Mahler said.

W-M lost by 42 points in the first meeting with L’Anse in December.

“We played much better than that game and we played much better than last night also,” Mahler said.

Josie Rice led L’Anse with 25 points.

Saundra Libertoski and Alexa Jilek both had 14 points to lead W-M.
