Copper World wins senior title
STANTON — In a battle between Keweenaw Little League’s Copper World and Portage Lake Little League’s O’Reilly Auto Parts Saturday, Copper World earned the Senior Little League title, thanks to a 9-7 victory.
Dryden Nelson got the start for Copper World, but could not make it through one inning before an injury caused the need for him to come out of the game. Carter Kilpela stepped in and threw the rest of the contest, giving up five runs on six hits. He walked three and struck out five.
At the plate, Garrett Peterson went 2-for-2, scoring twice in the game. Lars Peterson went 2-for-3, scoring twice. Braydon Cima scored twice.
Copper World earned its trip to the title game by defeating Hancock Bottling, 15-5. Cima pitched a complete game, scattering three hits, walking five and striking out five.
Ben Frantti went 5-for-5 to drive the offense, scoring four times. Cima also helped himself by going 3-for-4 at the plate and scoring three times.
Lars Peterson also had a strong game, going 3-for-3 with two runs scored. Aksel Loukus went 3-for-3 with one run scored.
With the win, Copper World finished the year 10-3 overall.
