TAPIOLA — Wins have been scarce for the Tapiola Over 50 Softball League team in recent years.

But Tapiola (1-1) scored a notable one Thursday with a 12-3 verdict over defending playoff champ Baraga.

Winning pitcher Len Juntunen cracked out three hits along with Ron Wanhala, Roy Duquette and Steve Bella.

Andy Heikkinen, Mike Roth and Tom Bowler all picked up two safeties for the winners.

Losing pitcher Mitch Lake, Mike Drewyor and Steve Giddings had two raps each for Baraga (0-2).

Houghton 6, Range 3

Houghton (2-0) defeated Range (1-1) behind four hits by Jed Pollard.

Dave Kamerand and Dan Eikenberry had three raps apiece for Houghton.

Dick Franti, Den Svoke counted two hits for Range.

Steve Dunstan was the winning pitcher, with Joe Rossi taking the defeat.
