Over 50 softball: South Range spills Houghton

TAPIOLA — With just a week left in the regular season, the Over 50 Softball League has a deadlock for the top spot.

South Range (5-2) downed Houghton 7-4 Thursday night.

Jim Cvengros, in relief of Joe Rossi, was the winning pitcher. Steve Dunstan took the mound loss for Houghton (5-2).

Picking up three hits for Houghton was Roy Duquette, Adding two raps apiece were Russ Anderson, Dick Franti and Mike Cook.

Dave Kamerand and Scott Madajewski had three hits apiece for Range.

In the other game last night, Baraga (2-5) was a 20-6 winner over Tapiola (2-5). Winning pitcher Mitch Lake and Jed Pollard rapped our four hits each for Baraga.

Charlie Kemppainen and Darryl Putala also had three hits apiece.

Tapiola (2-5) was paced by Steve Balla’s three hits, Duquette each had two hits.

Len Juntunen was the losing pitcher.
