Softball: Baraga notches 1st win

TAPIOLA — Baraga picked a good time to get its first win of the Over 50 Softball League on Thursday.

Baraga (1-5) scored a 13-6 win over Houghton, which dropped its first game of the summer.

Steve Giddings picked up the mound win, with Steve Dunstan taking the mound loss for Houghton (5-1).

Leading hitters for Baraga were Darryl Putala with three hits and Nick Lindemann and Giddings with two hits each. No other details were available.

In the second game last night, South Range notched a 7-4 win over Tapiola.

Jed Pollard, Ron Weiner, Ron Anderson and winning pitcher Joe Rossi all had two hits for Range (4-3).

Harold Filpus, Rick Duquette and Joe Eikenberry counted two hits apiece for Tapiola (2-5).

Len Juntunen was the losing pitcher.
