Copper Country Christian School soccer wins 1st U.P. championship

NEGAUNEE — Copper Country Christian School reached the pinnacle of U.P. soccer with its first Division 2 championship on Saturday at Peter Waara Park.

The CCCS co-ed team defeated Sault Ste. Marie by a 3-2 margin.

The Soo took a 2-0 lead before Noah Bach and Colby Balyo both scored to tie the game. Bach was fouled in the box and scored a penalty kick for the winning goal.

The win capped an exhilarating day for CCCS team, which also defeated the Soo 2-1 with a pair of goals by Ben Bishop in the preliminary. CCCS then beat Marquette 3-1. The Soo beat the Marquette JV on a goal differential tiebreaker. The Soo then beat Negaunee to face CCCS for the championship.
