Lions send Lumberjills crashing down

ASHLAND, Wis. — Seniors Bailey Froberg and Katie Lundeen scored in double figures as the Finlandia University women’s basketball team (6-7) beat Northland (1-7) 78-53, Tuesday night at Kendrigan Gym.

The entire first quarter saw Finlandia and Northland battle on even terms. In the second quarter, the Lions took a 27-19 lead with 6:15 to go.

The Lumberjills went on an 11-1 run to lead 30-28 at the 2:25 mark. FinnU finished the period on a 10-2 burst to lead 38-32. Finlandia outscored Northland 14-6 in the first six minutes of the third period to pull away.

FinnU had 21 defensive rebounds to just five offensive for the Lumberjills. The Lions held Northland to shooting just 25% on 3-pointers. This is the fifth straight game that the Lions have held their opponents to under 30%.

For Finlandia, senior Bailey Froberg had 25 points with five triples and Lundeen scored 16 points and had three steals.

For Northland, Miranda Wagner had 17 points and rebounds while Raniya White scored 14 points.

Finlandia stays on the road, Thursday, Jan. 6 taking on UW-Superior. The game is scheduled to start at 6 p.m.
