Thatcher Markham Memorial Run set for June 17

The Thatcher Markham Memorial Run is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday, June 17.

The run begins at the intersection of Quincy Street and Scott Street in Hancock.

Cost is $20 for both the 5K and the 5K non-competitive walk divisions.

Proceeds will be given to the Copper Country Junior Hockey Association and the Copper Country Police and Fire Relief Fund.

Thatcher Markham, the run’s namesake, was killed June 18, 2018 after severe flooding in the Copper Country area. He was 12 years old.

Race day registration and pre-registration check-in and packet pickup will be 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at 612 Quincy St.

The pre-race staging area will be Scott Street, between Quincy Street and Hancock Street.

The Bridgefest parade will follow the race start, at 7:05 p.m.

Event organizers caution runners not to use headphones, as sections of the race are not closed to traffic.
