Copper Country fastpitch: REL Inc. routs Tervo Agency 25-1

HOUGHTON — The bats heated quick and fierce for REL, Inc. in a 25-1 rout against Tervo Agency in Copper Country Fastpitch league action on Wednesday.

The league’s 15-run mercy rule was put on alert in just the first inning as REL Inc. scored 15 runs.

REL Inc. pitcher Vera Peterson faced just 15 batters and struck out six for the win.

REL, Inc. (3-0) went through the lineup twice in the first inning and tallied an insurmountable 15 runs. Multiple players scored twice.

“The bats were hot today,” said player-coach Peterson.

Swinging big sticks for REL, Inc. were center fielder Morgan Erkkila. She had two singles and a double Emily Storm had two singles a double and a triple while playing first base, and short stop D’Andra Kero had two singles. 

Losing pitcher Mel Baker threw strikes, but her teammates in the field struggled to make routine plays. In turn, they gave REL, Inc. four and five outs in this shorted matchup.

Baker scored the only run for Tervo Agency after reaching first on a walk in the opening frame.

Crush 12, NMLB, 0

Crush shut out Northern Michigan Land Brokers on Tuesday with a 12-0 win.

Crush’s Sarah Audette was the winning pitcher with Kaydence Kilpela taking the loss for NMLB.

At the plate for Crush, Erin Gast had two singles, and Megan Corrigan had two singles and a double of her own. Kara Kinnunen had a base hit as well.

For NMLB, Laura Kinnunen, Blaine Impola and Brenna Hill all had singles.

JB’s Sales and Service 10, Superior Service 5

After a slow start and down 3-0 headed into the third,  JB’s bats came alive with a four-run inning, and they didn’t stop swing as they edged a 10 -5 victory over Superior Service.

Grace Brunet was the starting pitcher for JB’s and was relieved by Stella Soumis and Mackenzie Lepage.

Josie Connors took the loss for Superior Service with relief from Isabelle Cleary.

Getting on base for JB’s were Clea Ollanketo who had a single and a double. Pitcher Brunet helped her own cause wit two base hits and Fayah Zapolnik had two singles and a double.

Connors had a single and a double for Superior Service. Tarynn Brey had two base hits, and Milly Loukus had a double and a single.
