CALUMET — The Copper Country Crush softball tournament came to end on Sunday with three area teams taking home championship wins.
Northern Chill earned one title victory and Crush had two.
One of the more interesting stories coming out the 33-team, three-day tournament for girls’ ages 8-18 was Northern Chill’s 14U championship win over Bronco Select from Kenosha, Wisconsin.
Northern Chill had faced them on Saturday in pool play and lost, 4-0.
“We just didn’t hit well,” said coach John Jokela.
The girls redeemed themselves at the plate when it meant the most in the championship game on Sunday. They beat Bronco Select 19-7.
“This time we came out swinging right off the bat,” Jokela said. “It was sweet. The girls played solid defense and made smart decisions. As well, we had good pitching all weekend.”
