Copper Mountain Conference announces volleyball awards

PAINESDALE — Not only did the Jeffers Jets volleyball team have an excellent regular season with an 19-1 record, winning the Copper Mountain Conference, they took home most of the All-Conference awards handed out Friday.

Coach Rachel Sondergrath was named Coach of the Year. Kaeda Rajala earned Most Valuable Player, and the Jets were named Team of the Year.

Ironwood’s Hanna Vaughn was named Defensive Player of the Year.

The All-Conference Elite Team featured Rajala and Sara Johnson from Jeffers, Lake Linden-Hubbell’s Abi Codere, and Baraga’s Mia Coronado along with Ironwood’s Bree Delich and Wakefield-Marenisco’s Noelle Grace.

In the Copper Country Division, the First Team was made up of Rajala, Johnson, and Mia Nordstrom from Jeffers, Coronado and Makenna Hendrickson from Baraga, and Codere from Lake Linden.

The Second Team had Jeffers’ Taylor Heinonen and Reegan Kinnunen, along iwth Baraga’s Jaycee Larson, Dollar Bay-Tamarack City’s Adelyn Swain, and L’Anse’s Mylee Londo.

Earning Honorable Mention were Baraga’s Kinsei Jahfetson, Chassell’s Dusty Lippold, Dollar Bay’s Kiera Isaacson, and Jeffers’ Sammi Pennala.

On the the Porcupine Mountain Division First Team were Ontonagon’s Kylee Uotila and Ewen-Trout Creek’s Emma Besonen.

Ewen’s Ireland McGeshick earned Second Team honors.

Ontonagon Madyson Pantti and Ewen’s Bree Besonen both earnd Honorable Mention.
