DOLLAR BAY — While the Dollar Bay-Tamarack City Blue Bolts boys basketball team took a big step Monday evening, it was not enough to deal with the bigger, stronger Calumet Copper Kings team that came into town and came away with a 59-48 win at the Dollar Bay Gym.
Calumet was led offensively by Blake Tarvis and Gavin Sturos, who both scored in double figures, with Tarvis scoring 19, and Sturos pouring in 18.
“(It was a) good effort by the Bolts tonight, but the size and physicality of Calumet gave us issues,” said Blue Bolts coach Jesse Kentala. “Tarvis and Sturos shot the ball well.”
Alan Bjorn also had a strong night for the Copper Kings, scoring 11 points.
“We’ll continue to work hard and improve,” said Kentala.
For the Blue Bolts, Liam Tourtillott scored 18 points, and Will Beaudoin scored 12.
Getting more scoring from Beaudoin bodes well for Dollar Bay in the long term.
“Will has done a great job hunting shots and being an offensive threat,” Kentala said. “We still need more production from our guards, but that will come.”
