WestPAC announces all-conference girls

HOUGHTON — The central Upper Peninsula members of the WestPAC dominated the regular season awards, which were announced Monday. Negaunee’s Ella Mason was named Player of the Year. Ishpeming’s Kadie Kaukola was named Defensive Player of the Year.

Calumet coach Charlie Keppainen was named Coach of the Year.

Ishpeming senior Jenna Maki and sophomore Jenessa Eagle were named to the Dream Team. Joining them were Calumet senior Caitlyn Strom, West Iron County senior Danica Shamion and Westwood senior Megan Marta.

Strom was also named to the Defensive Team. Hancock senior Brielle Kero joined her as the other Copper Country area recipient. Shamion, Ishpeming sophomore Mya Hemmer and Negaunee junior Aubrey Johnson were also named to the Defensive Team.

Calumet sophomore Kiirsi Johnson and West Iron County junior Sidney Storti joined a trio of Houghton girls on the First Team Copper Division. Gremlins seniors Clea Ollanketo and Danica Ryynanen, along with junior Eva Gerard rounded out the First Team.

In the Iron Division, the First Team was made up of Iron Mountain senior Emily Copley, Hemmer, Johnson and her Negaunee senior teammate Callie Rajala, along with Westwood junior Lexi Olson.

Hancock seniors Ella Storm and Lana Aho were both given honorable mention. Also honored were Gwinn freshman Makayla Delmont, Iron Mountain junior Macy Linsenbigler, Ishpeming senior Kadie Kaukola, Negaunee senior Grace Nardi, West Iron County senior Seanna Stine, and Westwood junior Izzie Marta.
