APPLETON, Wis. — The Keweenaw Volleyball Club’s 18 Black team competed in the Prep Dig Resolution Tournament in Appleton, Wisconsin, this past weekend, making it to the semifinals of the championship bracket.

The team went 3-1 overall, winning their pool on Day 1, and suffering its only loss in the semifinal match on Day 2.

The team is coached by Cindy Pindral and Ashley L’Esperance.

Senior Laney Johnson (Houghton), senior Madelyn Torola (Calumet), and junior Mia Nordstrom (Jeffers) were honored with “Top Performer” honors by Prep Dig. Johnson led the team in assists, Torola was the kill and block leader, and Nordstrom provided both an offensive and defensive spark in both starter and relief roles.

“This was an excellent showing for our first tournament of the year,” said coach Cindy Pindral. “Every player on the roster contributed to the team’s success, and we played with a tenacity and togetherness that was inspiring.

“We have some work ahead of us to smooth out a few details, but I am very happy with the way that we showed up and showed out at this tournament.”

The Keweenaw Volleyball Club (KVBC) is a Junior Volleyball Association (JVA) member organization that serves junior players ages 10-18 from across the Keweenaw region. KVBC offers an introductory skills clinic for fifth-sixth graders in the fall, and competitive travel teams for 12U-18U during the winter months.
