HOUGHTON — The Houghton Football Club select teams made an impressive showing in two major out-of-state soccer tournaments this spring, traveling to Menasha, Wisconsin, and Duluth, Minnesota.

The U14 boys team led the charge, going undefeated in Duluth to claim the tournament championship, and finishing as runner-ups in Menasha after a hard-fought final.

The U12 boys competed in the highly competitive Grey division of the Menasha Classic, opening with a dominant 7-1 victory. Their second match ended in a tough loss, before they battled in a dramatic third game that ended in a draw before they fell in penalty kicks. The final score of 3-2 left them just shy of advancing to a fourth match.

The club’s youngest competitors, the U10 teams, also proved their strength, with one team finishing undefeated in Duluth.

Making history

A historic milestone was also reached, as Houghton FC’s U14 girls’ team made their tournament debut.

Despite forming only last fall, the team held their ground against experienced opponents, securing draws in both events. Most of their matches were decided by a single goal, showcasing their resilience and rapid progress.
