Superior Service and Finnish Coat earn late-season wins

LAKE LINDEN — With a pair of games on Monday, the Copper Country Women’s Fastpitch softball regular season came to an end. Superior Service earned a 12-5 win over Northern Wishes at the Boneyard in Lake Linden while Finnish Coat earned a 6-4 victory over Old Bats of Michigan Made in Chassell.

Superior Service 12, Northern Wishes 5

Superior Service defeated Northern Wishes 12-5.

Josie Heinonen was the winning pitcher and Janet Mattila took the loss with relief from Elli Kuntze.

For Superior Service, Heinonen had a double and three singles, Milly Loukus had a double and two singles, Kaydence Pizzi had a double and a single and Gracie Moyle had two singles.

For Northern Wishes, Meg Ruohonen had a double and two singles, Sylvia Aho and Naomi Frahm each had a double.

Finnish Coat 6, Old Bats of Michigan Made 4

Finnish Coat defeated Old Bats of Michigan Made 6-4.

Lena Myhren was the winning pitcher and Mel Baker took the loss.

For Finnish Coat, Myhren, Ryleigh Johnson and Brynn Arko each had two singles. For Old Bats of Michigan Made, Alana Nolan had two singles and Baker had a single. 

JB’s and Gold Standard did not play.

Makeup game

Finnish Coat and Northern Wishes played a makeup on game on Tuesday in Lake Linden.

Playoff format

The single elimination playoff will begin on Wednesday, July 23, with quarterfinal play.

Game one, which will take place at 7 p.m., in Chassell, will be between the No. 4 Seed, to be determined, and the No. 5 Seed, Old Bats of Michigan Made.

Game two, which will also take place at 7 p.m., at the Boneyard, will be between No. 3 Seed, to be determined, and the No. 6 Seed, JB’s Sales and Service.

On Monday, July 28, the semifinals will be played at the Boneyard in Lake Linden. The first semifinal will feature the No. 1 Seed, Gold Standard, and the winner of the first quarterfinal game, at 5:30 p.m. The second semifinal will be between the No. 2 Seed, to be determined, and the winner of the second quarterfinal game, at 7:15 p.m.

The championship game will take place on Wednesday, July 30, at the Boneyard at 6:30 p.m.
