CALEDONIA, Mich. — The Michigan Tech Huskies soccer team allowed one goal in each half to fall to Davenport 2-0 to begin the second half of GLIAC play at the Farmers Insurance Athletics Complex on Friday evening.

Davenport (2-6-3, 2-4-1 GLIAC) completed the series sweep of Michigan Tech (2-9-1, 2-5-1 GLIAC), earning its third-straight win over the Huskies.

“A tough game today. We started the first half super flat and it put us in a position where we had to dig ourselves out of a hole,” said Huskies coach Melissa Kuhar. “We had a game plan and didn’t execute it properly, which was the reason we couldn’t get anything going attacking-wise until it was too late.

“We’ll learn from this and hopefully use the loss as motivation and a learning tool to be ready for a tough opponent on Sunday.”

The home team held a 19-11 shots advantage, including a 9-3 shot on goal edge, while also holding a 6-2 corner kick lead. The contest also saw 26 total fouls, 16 on the Panthers and three yellow cards.

The Panthers struck early in the match, earning a free kick outside of the Huskies’ box, resulting in a goal scored by Megan Malek with a shot high and to the left corner of the goal in the fifth minute.

Senior goalkeeper Bri Barrows made two saves in the first half before senior goalkeeper Ludesha Reynolds recorded five saves in the second half for the Huskies.

Michigan Tech was on the verge of finding the game-tying goal with under 10 minutes to play, with Davenport blocking multiple shots before junior forward Brooke Green landed a shot on goal.

However, Michigan Tech’s momentum was halted by a deep turnaround shot from Shay Norden in the 85th minute, which created a two-goal deficit and ultimately decided the game.

Green and freshmen midfielders Peyton Wetzel and Sophie Rater each recorded a shot on goal for the Huskies.

Josie Wilcox registered a team-leading three shots on goal as Elizabeth Wolter made three saves in net en route to her first shutout of the season.
