Gold Medal Classic basketball tournament dates set

HERMANSVILLE — The dates have been set for the 87th Gold Medal Classic Independent Basketball Tournament, which will be held at the historic Frank Rodman Community Club in Hermansville. The hallowed tournament will take place March 12-22.  Classes A, B, C, D, EE, E will be offered, as well as Junior High Boys and Girls divisions. HOUGHTON — With a 6-2 win on Friday and an 8-1 victory on Saturday, the Portage Lake Pioneers hockey team took both games over the weekend from the Calumet Wolverines. HANCOCK — The Hancock Bulldogs hockey team scored once in each of the first periods and held off a comeback attempt in the third period to skate away with a 2-1 win over the Sparta Spartans Friday at the HoCo Arena. Forward Nolan Hanner got the Bulldogs (4-3-1 overall) on the board first with a late first-period tally on the power play.
