Copper Mountain Conference announces all-conference golf

LAKE LINDEN — The Copper Mountain Conference announced its all-conference teams Wednesday. The Lake Linden-Hubbell Lakes boys were the conference champions, and that led to a number of individual awards for the group. On the girls’ side, the Ironwood Red Devils were the conference champions. For the boys, Lakes junior Brayden Beaudette was named Golfer of the Year. Brett Poissant was named Coach of the Year. ISHPEMING — The Houghton boys achieved a three-peat here Wednesday, earning their third straight WestPAC Conference track and field title with 171 points. They were followed by Negaunee 167 and Ishpeming Westwood 63. “It’s always great for us to win conference,” Houghton coach Erik Johnson said. “Our No. 1 thrower (junior Michael Solena) hurt his ankle. DETROIT — Angel Martínez hit a tiebreaking triple in the 10th inning, José Ramírez followed with an RBI double and the Cleveland Guardians beat the slumping Detroit Tigers 3-2 on Wednesday night. Cleveland tied it at 1 in the ninth when Daniel Schneemann scored on Patrick Bailey's groundout.
