Lakes softball closes out regular season with sweep

ISHPEMING — With a pair of lopsided wins Tuesday, the Lake Linden-Hubbell Lakes softball team closed out the regular season with a sweep of the Westwood Patriots on the road. The Lakes won the opening game, 16-0, then the nightcap, 18-2. With the wins, the Lakes closed out the regular season 27-2. In the opener, pitcher Payton Goldsworthy was outstanding. She struck out 11 and surrendered only two hits over five innings of work. At the plate, she was even better. CALUMET — In their final tuneup before the district tournament, the Calumet Copper Kings softball team dropped a pair of games to the Negaunee Miners at home. They dropped the opener 13-0, and then the nightcap, 17-14. With the losses, the Copper Kings finished the regular season 15-12-1 overall.
