HOUGHTON — One man was shot and killed in an incident Monday evening at a Shelden Avenue business in Houghton.

The Houghton Police Department on Tuesday morning confirmed that the fatal shooting occurred at the Douglas House Saloon.

According to a release from the department, at about 7 p.m. Monday, officers responded to a report of gunshots at the downtown establishment.

Upon arrival, officers located a deceased 53-year-old man in the men’s bathroom.

A person of interest, the release states, was taken into custody and lodged in the Houghton County Jail, awaiting arraignment in the 97th District Court.

According to TV6, the state Attorney General’s office, in absence of a county prosecutor, will review the case and charges. No arraignment date has been set.
