Keweenaw International Children's Festival Editor: The board of the Elaine Bacon Literacy Program would like to thank the many international and local people and organizations who made Saturday's first ever Keweenaw International Children's Festival at the Portage Lake District Library a huge success! The library was jam packed for hours as children and their parents milled around listening and dancing to stories, songs, and folk music from around the world. The children created crafts and saw beautiful displays of many cultures, among them Brazil, Indonesia, Iran, Jordan, Saudi ...

New Jail, rinse, repeat Editor: We have been dealing with the seemingly non stop new jail conversation for some years now. Might I suggest part of the problem is the transperancy into our local legal issues or lack of over the years. We used to see regular police & courts that gave an insight into how many and why we might have an over crowding issue. But that got removed. If we follow them, our enemies will be vanquished and we will be heroes (patriots). Who doesn't ...

Protecting Pedophiles Editor: The Epstein files are not a political issue. They are a test of human decency and a justice system that protects the powerful. The USA has failed on both accounts. William Wanhala Pelkie

Humiliation Editor: After listening to plaintive responses as to why the GOP lost elections held recently in New York, Maryland and Virginia, I’m at a loss as to why these frustrated elephants can’t fathom the real reason for their humiliating defeats. The elections I speak of are the mayorship of New York city and the governorships of Maryland and Virginia. Repeatedly and ad nauseam we hear flawed messages from GOP political strategists, viz., a less-than-expected turnout on the part of their constituents, not to mention voting irregularities favoring their opponents. These ...
