The Fossil Fuel Industry’s Control of Our Government Editor: The world as we know it today was built on the back of burning fossil fuels. Unfortunately, this process has come at a tremendous cost. Emissions from burning fossil fuels are rapidly warming our world at a rate that has never occurred in the history of our planet. Why, then, do we continue to burn planet killing fossil fuels? The Irrational Fundamentalists Editor, There’s a subset of Christianity known as Christian fundamentalists where around 80% support a corrupt and criminal Republican administration. As long as this administration supports in some way the Christian fundamentalist agenda of anti-abortion, anti-homosexuality, anti-trans sexuality, and anti-same sex marriage, they will vote Republican and ignore the corruption. Celebrate Pride Month Dear editor, For the LGBTQ+ community and their friends and allies, the month of June includes remembrance of both tragedy and celebration. Among the many acts of violence committed against this community was the Pulse nightclub massacre on June 12, 2016, when a gunman opened fire, killing 49 people and injuring 58 others in one of the deadliest mass shootings in a country that has experienced far too many such events. Bergman's "Statement" EDITOR, I was eager to read the statement issued by Congressman Jack Bergman that was highlighted on the front page of the Gazette on May 23. I hoped to be enlightened about how he was serving his constituents. Perhaps he would explain the fantastic outcomes of the Big, Billionaire Tax Relief Bill he voted for last summer? Used Book Sale & Pie Social a Success On behalf of the First United Methodist Church in Hancock, thank you to everyone who donated quality used books to our 15th Annual Used Book Sale and the more than 300 people who attended and purchased books. Sale proceeds of over $2,000 will go toward a stained glass restoration consultation. We also thank everyone who made our Pie Social, held in conjunction with the book sale, a huge success.
