Editor: Michigan’s EGLE department will decide by July whether to permit the Great Lakes tunnel proposed in 2018. By extending Line 5 operation until the tunnel is ready, Enbridge makes $8 billion. The tunnel is an expensive bandaid for only 4 of Line 5’s 645 miles. If built, Michigan must own it for another century of oil to Sarnia. Enbridge plans to operate 78-year-old Line 5 while boring the tunnel directly below it — a dangerous six year undertaking.
