Stealing is never OK

To the editor: I am writing to you about stolen property in the Calumet area. It was on private property that my husband’s tree stand had been stolen. He went there for so many years that the tree stand had grown into the tree. He has severe back problems and relied on the tree stand because he can’t walk much anymore. He is also in his 70s. Some years his back was so bad he couldn’t hunt at all. He would only go two or three days out of the season because of the pain. He has shot a few deer while hunting from the stand. He came home and said “I guess I won’t be hunting ...

COVID-19

To the editor: It really bothers us that the vast majority of the people in the USA use the phrase “God bless America.” Why are we the only ones that should be blessed by God? Why not “God bless everyone, no excecptions”? I presume Jesus would have wanted it that way. You might get some “Brownie” points from him if you included everyone. On another topic, if people don’t start taking the pandemic seriously and aren’t really careful in public, our health care system is going to be overwhelmed, if it is not already. You may think it is all right if lots of people ...

Health care

To the editor: Older Americans across the country depend on the delivery of quality healthcare in their homes, which has become increasingly important, especially during the COVID-19 public health emergency. Home health providers deliver nursing, therapy and aide services to patients in the safety and security of their own homes, helping to reduce patient exposure to the novel coronavirus while also saving the Medicare program millions in avoided facility-based care. While 3.5 million Americans currently depend on Medicare home health each year, there is an incredible opportunity to ...

Thankful for the truth

To the editor: With all the accusations that have been swirling around about our election I’m truly thankful l that the charges have been thoroughly pursued by President Trump’s lawyers and we now know the truth. I’m thankful to have heard Rush Limbaugh, on Monday the 23rd, lash out at the President’s lawyers for repeatedly announcing they had “bombshell news” which would demonstrate the fraud but then in court after court were unable to present even “bullets” of proof. Truth prevailed. I’m thankful to Tucker Carlson of Fox News for pursuing the conspiracy ...

Make your voices heard

To the editor: On November 3, I was proud to cast my vote at precinct 2, at our historic Dee Stadium. I took my 13-year-old son with me so that he could see democracy in action. We put on our masks and were greeted by friendly and efficient poll workers, volunteering their time to uphold the democratic process in the midst of a pandemic. I cast my ballot and got my sticker; my son got one too, excited for the time when he could cast his own ballot.  Despite countless odds, Michigan voters turned out to vote in historic numbers. They made it known that our country’s path has run off ...

Some statistics

To the editor: Some statistics: Michigan has twice the population of Finland, 16 times the cases of coronavirus and 20 times the deaths— as of Nov. 9. In Finland, they simply followed the guidelines, didn’t fight and lie and demonize. For months already they’ve been having schools and businesses open (with common sense measures). So those Finns are doing the best in the world as of today’s news, which I read in a Finnish newspaper (Helsingin Sanomat) on my smartphone. That could be Michigan if we were a lot smarter. It’s no surprise that Finland continues to very ...
