KBIC holds primary election

L’ANSE — Keweenaw Bay Indian Community members chose candidates for the general election ballot in Saturday’s primary. The KBIC posted unofficial results on its Facebook page. In the L’Anse District, incumbent Toni Minton led with 62 votes. She will be joined on the general election ballot by Sam Loonsfoot (49), Dale Goodreau (44) and Serene Gauthier (40). Not advancing to the December field were Jerry Jondreau (34), Gary Loonsfoot, Jr. (30) and Terri Swartz (Denomie) (22). HOUGHTON — Voters approved Houghton County’s road millage renewal and other measures throughout the Copper Country in Tuesday’s election. Results are unofficial, pending today’s approval from the Board of Canvassers. Houghton County County voters overwhelmingly approved a renewal of the operating and maintenance millage for the Houghton County Road Commission. The 1.369-mill, 10-year millage passed 3,211-532, garnering more than 85% of the vote. WASHINGTON — A majority of Democrats now think one term is plenty for President Joe Biden, despite his insistence that he plans to seek reelection in 2024. All ballots match in Houghton recount

HOUGHTON — A hand recount of a Houghton precinct conducted as part of a statewide effort Friday found no difference from November’s original results. Houghton’s Precinct 2 was one of several Upper Peninsula precincts to have its Nov. 8 votes recounted in Marquette Friday. The 1,370 votes in the precinct matched 100 percent, said Houghton County Clerk Jennifer Kelly. “I’m beyond happy,” she said. HOUGHTON — A Houghton precinct will be one of more than 500 statewide to undergo a hand recount for state proposals. Houghton’s Precinct 2 was named in the recount, the product of a petition filed by Election Integrity Fund and Force to recount votes for Proposals 2 and 3. Proposal 2 expanded voting rights in the state constitution, while Proposal 3 enshrined abortion rights. Both passed in November. Houghton County is one of 43 included in the Proposal 3 recount.
