BARAGA — The Baraga Drive In is hosting its annual Classic Car Show this Sunday, July 16, from 1 to 5 p.m. The band Spun, from Marquette, will perform starting at 2 p.m.

Rob Reynolds, owner of the drive-in said he and his wife do not award trophies to car owners, instead they present give-aways.

“That way, nobody says, ‘My car isn’t good enough,'” he explained. “So, we don’t do that, we just do give-aways and that kind of stuff.”

Reynolds and his wife have an interesting story of how they came to start having the car shows.

“The fact is,” he said, “my wife and I used to go to car shows all the time, but then after we bought the drive-in, of course we can’t get away. So, we started having one here.”

It started out kind of small, he said, but it has expanded over the years. Last year, about 80 cars were at the show.

Reynolds and his wife bought the drive-in in 2017. Originally, the establishment was an A&W, but the drive-in’s then owners dropped the franchise in the 1990s, said Reynolds.

In addition to the annual car show, the Baraga Drive In hosts a weekly car show on Tuesdays, at which the Keweenaw Cruisers can usually be found.
