Houghton crash sends two people to the hospital
Chris Jaehnig/Daily Mining Gazette An accident involving a motorcycle and a van took place on Shelden Avenue Friday afternoon. Both the 20-year-old driver and the 19-year-old passenger on the motorcycle were rushed to UP Health System — Portage for injuries sustained in the accident.
HOUGHTON — A personal injury crash involving a van and a motorcycle sent two people to the hospital Friday afternoon.
At approximately 12:40 p.m., officers from the Houghton Police Department responded to the call at the intersection of Pewabic Street and Shelden Avenue. A vehicle driven by a 59-year-old-man from Hancock was traveling north on Pewabic Street, when he collided with a motorcycle traveling west on Shelden Avenue.
The driver of the motorcycle, a 20-year-old man from Brighton, was transported by Mercy Ambulance to U.P. Health System — Portage hospital, for treatment. The passenger, a 19-year-old female, was also transported to U.P. Health System — Portage for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash.
The incident remains under investigation. The Houghton Police Dept. was assisted on the scene by the Houghton County Sheriff’s Office and Michigan Tech Public Safety and Police Services.
