H-PT bus catches fire; no injuries
HOUGHTON — A Houghton-Portage Township Schools bus caught on fire Thursday morning, causing no injuries but resulting in delays.
A leaking power steering line is believed to have started the fire, Superintendent Anders Hill said in an email to parents Thursday morning. The route No. 8 bus pulled over with power steering issues on the way to the start of Thursday’s route.
Nobody was hurt, and no students were on the bus yet, Hill said.
“I talked with our director of transportation this morning and he is committed to making sure our buses are safe and are being proactively checked for issues,” he said in the email to parents.
A new bus started the route at 8 a.m. Thursday morning, High School Principal Tiffany Scullion said in an email to parents.
