Nursing center at VA facility grabs top rating

IRON MOUNTAIN –The Community Living Center and long-term nursing facility at the Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center was recently rated five out of five stars by VA’s Quality Rating System.

The facility took top scores in a recent strategic analysis of all VA long-term health care facilities in Veteran Integrated Service Network 12, a region that covers VA facilities in most of Wisconsin and parts of Illinois, Indiana and the entire Upper Peninsula.

“Our mission is to honor our veterans and provide exceptional healthcare that they deserve” said Daniela Den Boer, CLC nurse manager, in a statement. “This validates our role in providing high quality, resident-centered care for our veterans who depend on us.”

The analysis considered many different aspects of care using facility reporting over the past 10 quarters of each calendar year. Most of these periods of time were during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“This goes to show that even during the one of the worst pandemics in recent history, we kept our veterans and employees safe,” said Zachary Sage, acting medical center director, in a statement. “Our health care personnel make the difference, and I am proud of our people who put veterans above themselves.”
