GCC student athletes receive All-Academic awards through National Junior College Athletic Association

Gogebic Community College is pleased to announce that nine of their student athletes that competed during the 2019-20 school year earned All-Academic awards through the National Junior College Athletic Association. The athletes grade point average (GPA) was above 3.60. Earning first team honors with a GPA of 4.0 include: Shawna Jackson (Softball), Steven Nelson (Men’s Basketball) and Rylee Nicoletti (Women’s Basketball). Earning second team honors with a GPA ranging between 3.80 and 3.99 are Martina Anderson (Softball) and Heather Dickrell (Softball). Earning third team honors with a GPA between 3.60 and 3.79 are Jared Janczak (Men’s Basketball), Maddison Johns (Softball), Sydnee Lorenson (Softball) and Aiyana Nickel (Women’s Basketball).

GCC’s softball team was selected as one of the National Junior College Athletic Association’s team of the year for posting a cumulative team grade point average of 3.32. Congratulations goes out to team members: Maddison Johns, Rachel Hudacek, Haley Grover, Sydnee Lorenson, Taylor Goard, Haley Halvorsen, Mackenzie LePage, Ashley Erickson, Martina Anderson, Heather Dickrell, Shawna Jackson, Sarah Trudgeon, Casey Parker and Brittney Lozano. Noel Aho serves as the Samson Softball Coach.

“Gogebic Community College recognizes the amount of time and effort that all of our student athletes put forth to compete and succeed on their respective fields of play and in the classroom. These athletes demonstrated that their level of commitment to their academic and athletic pursuits are unwavering,” said Mike Boerman, GCC Athletic Director. These athletes embody the best of what it means to be a Samson.
