This summer, a herd of about 30 goats will be arriving at Swedetown Trails for about 10 days to help manage glossy buckthorn (Frangula alnus), a dominant woody invasive species in the area. A meat delivery truck rolled over on M26 near the Houghton-Ontonagon county line Thursday. The driver of a Vollwerth’s delivery truck said a rear tire blew causing the truck to shift its cargo at about 4 p.m. while traveling west. The driver then lost control, crossing the center line and rolling over into the ditch, according to the Houghton County Sheriff’s Office. The rim of the truck caused a large gouge in the pavement, requiring repair by Michigan Department of Transportation. The driver was treated by Mercy Ambulance personnel for minor injuries. The Upper Peninsula Chronic Wasting Disease Surveillance Zone — which includes parts of Delta, Dickinson and Menominee counties — will be removed beginning with this year’s hunting seasons, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources said.
