Delivery of new waste management carts delayed

Delivery of the trash and recyclables carts has been delayed. The City of Houghton trash and recyclables carts will be delivered beginning Tuesday, May 29. It will take approximately two days to deliver them. Residents can continue the present system until Monday, June 5. On Monday, June 5 all of the carts will have been delivered and all trash and recyclables will be placed inside the carts. Thank you for your patience. Also, remember that Waste Management honors Memorial Day so all trash and recyclables collection will be delayed one day that week.

Closure planned for Boney Falls boat launch May 30

Marquette – Upper Peninsula Power Company (UPPCO) is announcing the company’s boat launch facility at Dam No. 4 on the Boney Falls reservoir will be temporarily closed to the public on Tuesday, May 30th, 2023. The closure is required to support planned maintenance and facility improvements that are being completed by UPPCO this summer. U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) invite you to an open house to learn about the Torch Lake Cleanup Projects status and next steps. The meeting will be May 23 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Lake Linden-Hubbell High School Auditorium. The projects will address waste drums and impacted material previously discarded in Torch Lake.
