Government needs to change

To the editor:

It has been said that the only thing that likes change is a wet baby. It has also been said that many people are afraid of change.

President Obama’s campaign motto was “Change to believe in.” What is needed is for positive change in government to become a reality.

Specifically, the positive change we need is for people to reconnect with those in public offices, and for those in public offices to reconnect with the people.

The top down management that has become very entrenched in our state government needs to be changed into bottom up and horizontal leadership. I know of this up close and personal being a State employee for over 20 years. There is a difference between management and leadership.

Management is doing things right, leadership is doing the right things.

While this may seem to be an impossible task, the very word impossible say I’m possible. Gandhi said, “Be the change that you want to see in the world.” This is the key my fellow Michigander’s. Change begins and ends with, “We the People.”
