Ukraine benefit a resounding success in Houghton

To the Editor: I write to express deep gratitude to all who contributed to this weekend’s benefit Concert for Ukraine, especially the marvelous performers: Amanda Matznik, Leslie Dukes, Eleanor McKinney, Dr. Jared Anderson, Austin Malarchick, Adelina Oronovo, Nazar Gora, and Dean and Bette Premo. The audience was magnificent in singing the Ukrainian National Anthem. Houghton Boosters grateful for support from community

To the Editor: The Houghton All Sports Boosters raises funds for sporting equipment, safety equipment, and uniforms for Houghton High and Middle School athletes. On May 18, a drawing was held for 67 donated prizes: $4,750 in cash prizes and $4,850 in gift certificates and merchandise. The Boosters is grateful to the outstanding support from parents, family, alumni, and friends, who purchased over 1,100 tickets, helping Boosters earn $8,565 in profits. To the Editor: As I write this letter, the U.S. Supreme Court seems poised to do away with its 1973 decision, which facilitated the destruction of tens of millions of innocent lives. Right to choice shouldn’t be taken away

To the Editor: As this is a hot topic I know that I will get heat for my comments. The news is again filled with views on abortion both for and against. I believe in the sanctity of life, and also the right for women to make decisions as to their reproductive rights. This right to their bodies should not be legislated away by politicians (mostly men). The choice of options should be a matter for her, her doctor, and any significant other involved. Purdue settlement eyed

To the Editor: I am not sure if the opioid money settlement relates to Purdue Pharmaceutical's long term relationship with doctors, over approximately 30-plus years, in which they assured doctors that opioids weren't addictive and encouraged them to prescribe them outrageously out of the bounds of common sense! At one point, I was aware of approximately 50 doctors in the Upper Peninsula who were censored due to over prescribing! Reader doesn’t like junkyard near home in Lake Linden

To the Editor: We had a junkyard pop up one day at the entrance to our little town. That was years ago and then it was cars from the flood. Now it is ugly garbage vehicles leaking oil, gas and various fluids straight into the very same ground that not that long ago was considered a highly polluted superfund site. Have we learned nothing? I can’t get an answer who even owns this eyesore. I am almost positive its not zoned for roadside open air junkyard and pollution center.
