Seriously, why?

To the editor: I’ve been trying to figure out why some people are so fervent in their continuing support for former President Donald Trump. I’m no great fan of either political party. My opinion is that both parties have become completely subservient to their corporate and Wall Street overlords. As of 2019, the top 10% of households in the US held 70% of the country’s wealth, while the bottom 50% held just 2%. In 2020, Georgia congressperson Jon Ossoff raised 150 million dollars to get a job that pays $174,000. Where did all money come from and what were the anticipated ...

Big Pharma problems

To the editor: In recent weeks, we have seen what appears to be Biblical ignorance, and scriptural misquotes on everything from abortion to taking or refusing to take the mRNA Big Pharma “vaccine.” Any minister of the Judeo-Christian faiths should be familiar with the quote (from Job?), “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you.” Even godless science has proven that life begins at conception, based on information of a new and unique DNA set. Can any of you ministers come forward and state what the fate is of those shed innocent blood? Is it true that all three Big Pharma ...

Elect competent US House Rep

To the editor: In 2022, we will have another opportunity to elect competent United States House of Representative members, who believe in the Democratic process. Michigan’s First District Representative, Jack Bergman, apparently does not hold to Democratic ideals as he joined with a Texas lawsuit to overthrow Michigan’s election result in 2020 https://www.detroitnews.com/story/news/politics/2020/12/10/walberg-supports-texas-suit-seeking-overturn-michigan-election-results/3879378001/. Interestingly, he would have negated his own election win as well as our (yours and mine) ...

People are people

To the editor: For many years my husband and I have hosted friends and strangers to watch and discuss movies at our home in Hancock. My husband‘s taste runs to very slow, thoughtful movies, which can be a little hard to stick with sometimes. We recently watched one called “The Orator,” which is a movie from the island of Samoa. True to form, it’s a slow film. There are lessons in both the film, and in the slowness of the film, that made me want to write today. The film is very confusing. It does not draw on familiarity, and that’s a good thing since I don’t know ...
