Rural America and truckers

To the editor: Rural America today is a lot like Jesus’ rural Galilean place of upbringing. In Galilee, everything was simple, uniform, and backward. Complex, varied, or new policies were not welcome. Then, there was pushback against measures to deal with the Roman occupation and attendant mental health disorders. To the editor: After reading the front page article regarding the proposed seaplane airport and operation on Portage Lake, just south of Houghton, we want to say, “Just say no to a seaplane airport next to residential neighborhoods on Portage Lake!” What homeowner, boater, or kayaker wants noisy seaplanes landing and taking off on the peaceful waters of Portage Lake at all times of the day? Anniversary thanks

To the editor: Recently we observed the 50th anniversary of the MacInnes Student Ice Arena. I would like to thank all those who have worked there over the years. They have maintained the rink exceptionally well. Their efforts have continued to give the university and the community a great facility. Hail Mary for healthcare

To the editor: Recently, I found myself in a quandary. My husband and I qualify for Marketplace Insurance, but our three children qualify for Medicaid. Common sense would assume that one would have the choice between Medicaid and subsidized Marketplace Insurance. However, the reality in Michigan is that the law doesn’t allow parents to choose Medicaid or subsidized Marketplace Insurance for their children. Who owns a name?

To the editor: I am responding to an article in the paper on 1-26-2022, entitled “ Lac La Belle, Mount Bohemia reach agreement on name use.”  In the article, Mr.Glieberman said, “we built a ski resort in the middle of nowhere.” I beg to differ. Mt. Bohemia  is not in the middle of nowhere. It is in the beautiful and very special place, the Keweenaw Peninsula. As we know Mt. Bohemia has a name, it is not an insignificant unnamed hill. Having an arm or leg should not be a luxury

To the editor: Over two million Americans live with limb loss or limb difference, but two-thirds won’t receive a prosthetic device. There is not much information to explain why or if people are getting access to the care they need. That’s why I’m urging Sen. Debbie Stabenow, Sen. Gary Peters, and Rep. Jack Bergman to cosponsor the Triple A Study Act (S.1089/H.R.2461). The Triple A Study Act solves this problem by identifying the best care practices for people with living with limb loss and limb difference.
