DMG editorial was misleading

To the editor: The February 10 Mining Gazette editorial was misleading and the conclusions the editorial tried to make were unconvincing. The DefundBergman campaign is about accomplishing unity through responsible healing. The editorial you published demonstrated you did not watch the press conference, available on the Facebook page, which announced this campaign. You did not reach out to any of the defundbergman members before writing about what our goals and objectives are. Restoring trust

To the editor: Everyone likes to win, but it seems the pain of losing is even more emotionally powerful. Politically charged American voters have experienced both these feelings since 2016. Reconciliation will take effort and compassion. We have allowed our trust in each other to be undermined. I think we are all getting tired of the fighting.  I believe that the challenges of racism, climate change, economic hardship, and COVID are connected, and the solution to all of them involves addressing our selfishness.  “The love of money is the root of all evil” - 1 Timothy 6:10. ...

To the editor: This was the twenty-second year that The Keweenaw Detachment of the Marine Corps League has conducted a Toys for Tots Campaign in the Copper Country. In spite of the obstacles created by the Coronavirus, outstanding community support enabled us to provide nearly 3,900 toys to 1285 children in the Copper Country. Support local health officials

To the editor: This letter is in support of WUPHD and its employees. It shocks me that healthcare workers are being targeted in the U.P. with death threats for supporting keeping the population protected from a deadly virus. The per capita infection rate and mortality rate in the U.P. from COVID is among the highest in the world. The economy cannot thrive if more than ¼ of the consumer population and working population is dead from COVID. There is no coming back from that. There are many bad actors that are intentionally creating chaos and actively increasing the infection ...

Should anyone dread doctors?

To the editor: Having experienced it so many times before, I knew before the appointment the battle we would have; the battle to be taken seriously and not discounted. The surgeon began by telling us he read my mother’s file and giving an awkward acknowledgement to “all her medical history” meaning my mother’s mental illness. This was not a good start, as her mental illness had nothing to do with the medical treatment she was seeking. He waited to hear our questions and reasons for why we were requesting a second opinion. His demeanor said “this is not worth my time.” ...
